Brief history of June as a child.

Created by Rita 3 years ago

June was the first born to Arthur Charles Coward and Evelyn Winifred Emily Coward.

June was born on the 3rd August 1939. Her full name was June Muriel Coward.

She had 3 siblings Pam, Eric, and Rita.

We had a very good loving childhood, always with a lot of laughter,

Although our parents didn't have a lot of money, we always had good food, and 3 meals a day.

We also seemed to have days out quite a lot when dad wasn't working, this maybe because he got free railway travel seeing he was a guard. Most years we also went on holiday, to Great Yarmouth or Jaywick sands Clacton.

June went to Wrotham road school, then on to Berwick road senior school in Welling.

We always played cards on a Saturday and Sunday, which all of us took part in and really loved the time we spent with our parents doing this.

June also looked after the younger 3 when Eric was in hospital for a year.

June was very shy as a child and if any of our relations came she would hide under the table with Rita, and would stay there for 10/15 minutes.

June used to take music lessons, but didn't like it and if you got a note wrong she would hit you with a ruler.

Junes first job was with the Co-operative store in Bexleyheath, starting as a junior, and worked her way up to a relief traveling manageress window dresser.  She stayed in this job until she got married.

June and I always got on very well and I would go and stay with her when she had a flat in Finchley, where Dale and Dawn lived with their dad Victor Stewart.  When they moved to Basingstoke we still stayed in touch and she would come and stay with me and my husband Alan and our children Debra and Graham, or we would go and stay with June, by this time she had Tracey and Jason as well.

in later life she came and stayed with me and Alan and we would take her out to the coast or gardens. We had said next time she came down we would take her to St Margarets Bay as she wanted to see where a distance relative Noel Coward lived and his museum, but unfortunately she couldn’t get down again.

i really missed this when she got to poorly to travel to see us, we then went down to her and Malcolm for the last 7 years. And really enjoyed these visits, unfortunately we couldn't get to see her last year because of covid.
Will always remember her having a lovely smile.

Miss you but you will always be in our hearts.
